Welcome to the Mattiverse

my love of books continues to grow

I used to love reading when I was young, I was one of the highest level readers in primary school and that lasted until I got to high school and discovered the medium of video games and TV.

Unfortunately, the closest I got to reading for all my teenage years and the majority of my twenties was comic books and magazines. Around 4 years ago now was when I started picking up books again, mostly because I'd signed up to Kindle Unlimited and I was able to read through my phone.

That, couple with stumbling on the LitRPG genre meant that my reading went back into overdrive, 40 books in 2022, 50 books in 2023, 50 books in 2024, 70 books in 2025 and you can view my library to see what I've read this year.

It's only recently when I've started thinking about my appreciation for books and the joy that they bring me, while I do still enjoying watching TV shows and films, I find that being able to get lost in a book is something that can't be topped.

Because each person will see every part of the book differently, whether it's the characters themselves or how they're dealing with different scenarios. I find myself picking up a book and then noticing several hours has gone past.

One of the reasons why I started my library page was to be able to add some thoughts around the books I'm reading, but also to give a bit of an appreciation for the effort and time that these authors are putting in.

I'd love to be an author and I have an aim of getting at least one short story posted this year, it's tough though because I have such a fear of publishing inadequate work (which it will be because I'm only a beginner) but I have to fight that by remembering that the only way to improve is to fight through.

I think 2026 is the year that I'm going to be buried by books and I'm looking forward to completely drowning in everything book related.
