Welcome to the Mattiverse

duolingo is pretty cool

Me and my partner are heading to Italy in a couple of months, she made the decision to learn a bit of the language using Duolingo and mentioned it to me.

I absolutely agreed it was a great idea and so I've also been learning Italian.

But, I've also been using it to learn Maths and Chess, I've always liked the idea of learning Chess, although I confess that I do want to learn more about Go than Chess, but I'll take what I can get.

I've never really thought much about learning languages (or much of anything else) until recently. After my last post wondering where to go in my career, a thought that has commonly been coming to me is whether I should go back into education and get another degree.

Perhaps this time, I'd do it right rather than sticking with a degree I wasn't passionate about and didn't get a good grade in (see here for more thoughts on that).

I also find the gamifying of learning quite a good idea, I've found being able to 'compete' with my partner as well as keeping our streaks going has been a good way to keep the motivation and enjoyment for it.

Hopefully by the time the Italy trip comes around, we'll both be fluid and be able to start learning another language for our next adventure.
