This was perhaps the most disappointed of the seven books I've read for this series, it felt like filler and it wasn't particularly 'deep' filler at that, I appreciate it's given Victor his next steps, but it felt a little hollow.
I appreciate the need for politics somewhat, but I confess that this hasn't handled it as well as a series such as 'He Who Fights With Monsters' for example, in which the political side also felt like there were consequences - this feels a lot more like politics is being tacked on as a way of including other characters.
That said, it's not a bad book and although the main 'favour' was a bit lacklustre, the battles are still good and the characters are well written and unique (if I continue to say there's too many).
This would have perhaps felt a bit better had it been a set up to something further down the road for Victor, which in truth, I expected and was a little disappointed.
That said, it ended fairly strongly so I'm interested in seeing where it goes from here.
