that moment a book 'hooks' you
I haven't read much any Stephen King fiction books. It, Pet Sematary, Green Mile... None. I know, I'm a terrible, awful person who doesn't deserve the title of a 'reader'.
That said, I thought it was about time I gave some King books a try, the books have never been a genre I wanted to try but I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong.
The book I started with? The Dead Zone.
The first 40-50 pages were a slog... I figured perhaps I was right that King was never going to be for me.
Then it happened, the hook gripped me and hasn't let go, I've found myself engrossed in the story now and I remember the exact moment this happened.
I've never noticed it before, I mean usually I don't push through with a book unless it gets me near enough right away, but given the genre is suspense, I wanted to allow a bit more as I expected a slower start.
But when it did finally get me and I found myself wanting to find out what has happened and what's going to happen. Well, what a feeling.
In short, it reminds me why I love reading so much and why sometimes it's okay to push through with a book that starts slow, because that hook might be waiting on the very next page.
I will never get tired of books and I will forever be grateful for authors.
