Welcome to the Mattiverse

measure of success

I've been able to post every day since May 2.

It's the first time I've managed a long, consistent streak and my analytics have reflected that. Seeing the numbers going up has been cool, but it's now left me in a bit of a conundrum.

I want to keep that going while staying true to my intention of not posting for analytics. I’m no longer concerned with sticking to a niche or specific topic. I've found that not being 'locked in' has been good for my wellbeing.

I was fortunate enough to get onto the front page of the trending page here on BearBlog with my post, replacing social media with a different form.

In the article, I spoke briefly about intention, the full quote being:

Quote "My belief is that I need to start being a bit more intentional with what I'm doing online and the changes I choose to make to the site."

The same way I don't want to be trapped into adding things that don't align with my values and intention around the site, I don't want to become obsessed over the numbers, reads, likes. Sure, it's nice to know people are viewing (and appreciating) what I'm posting, but this isn't my measure of success.

My measure of success is to say I've posted what mattered to me on any given day, whether personal or professional.

Some of these posts will resonate, some won't, and that means inevitably my analytics will fluctuate. I have to understand and accept that or start questioning my intentions with these posts.

My goal is to build a writing habit, not an audience and while the audience may be a byproduct of the writing, it will always come second to my actual goal.
