let's have a meeting to discuss
I'm not sure if it's because I'm anti-social or because of my current feelings surrounding my 9-5 job, but I don't understand the need for so many meetings.
The sheer amount of pointless meetings (seemingly across the board when it comes to people's work) is mind-boggling, meetings to discuss something that could have been a simple phone call or email, meetings to discuss upcoming meetings or organise the next meetings.
I enjoyed this post from David Graeber about the rise of bullshit jobs, but perhaps there is also the rise of bullshit meetings. Meetings that are completely pointless to you doing your job.
At this point, I'm assuming that it's a way for people to make themselves feel busy when it comes to their own brand of bullshit job, a way in which they can feel like they're making a difference and being able to communicate their importance to others.
I always find it funny when people tell me how busy they are and yet the majority of their time and schedule is filled with meetings that seemingly have no point nor resolution at the end.
If anyone would like to have a meeting to discuss this, I'm free on the 31st June so get your appointments in early...
Enjoy this?
