music review: Texas King, Ultraviolet
Without doubt, this has been the soundtrack to my year. It's been blasting in the car, at home, while Iβm in the shower, and everywhere in between.

I stumbled on Texas King after hearing a cover of The '59 Sound by Gaslight Anthem (my favourite band ever) and I was blown away.
I confess to not being technical when it comes to music, I can't tell you about the production values or the use of specific equipment, but what I can tell you is how this album makes me feel, which I can only describe as a wistful optimism.
The lyrics carry a vulnerability to them which resonates, it's a lovely feeling of romanticism that lingers throughout the album. In fact, to borrow a lyric, it makes you feel 'something remarkable'.
It's a perfect road trip album, or sitting at a pier, watching the waves while reflecting on life, which would be made even better if the weather was slightly overcast1.
As this has been a year of change for me, 'Drive Home' hits hard; the sense of getting to a good place, but it being too late to truly enjoy it. Or, there's the sense of nostalgia that comes from 'On Your Street' and 'Straight Away'.
Ultraviolet isnβt just an album Iβve listened to all year, itβs one Iβll carry with me into the next.
Overcast is the perfect weather for reflecting on life.↩
