pinterest rekindled my fire for art
I know Pinterest has had a bit of a hit over the last few years with the amount of adverts and AI generated stuff on there, but I've had a bit of a creative resurgence because of it.
My approach has started to take on a similar aspect as what I'm doing right here on the blog, which is that I want to enjoy it and I have the freedom to do what I want, even if I'm the only one who wants to see (or appreciate) it.
If you have a look at my art page, you'll see that I very much have a passion for abstract art and typography. To the point that I've started trying to combine them a little more now, along with that, it's fair to say my inspiration is clearly from grunge, punk and graffiti.
These are all things I've been able to search and appreciate through Pinterest and has allowed me to start finding new and interesting artists and creatives to follow.
That's perhaps been my biggest annoyance, I don't want to use the cesspool that is Instagram and I had no idea how else to go about finding inspiration, and while it may get to a point where I need to be on Instagram if I want to take anything 'seriously'. For the moment, I'm enjoying not having to care.
I've generally found that the parts of art I'm attracted to haven't been hit my AI, because nobody really needs AI to create abstract, grunge, graffiti or punk-inspired art. The whole point was that it was hand-made and although I'm currently having to replicate this digitally (due to costs/space), it's giving me a lot of excitement for when I am able to get my own materials and start creating in a physical space.
I didn't really pay much attention to artists or even movements, which given my history as a Graphic Designer, is quite egregious, but my defence (or excuse) for this is that I simply didn't care.
Now, I'm finding artists such as: Steve Leadbeater, Jeremy Brown and being reminded of some of my favourites like: Wasted Rita, Keith Haring and Futura.
There's so much incredible work out there and I'm allowing myself to drown it. Don't save me.
