Thoughts:
Book one ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and while you could somewhat predict the outcome, it was still a good place to have book two start.
As much as I liked the characters from the previous series, having it be a bit more focused on Thorn, his history and how he's building things is definitely a nice way of getting into his character arc in a little more depth.
The story itself is also very good, it's almost like a short rags to riches type of deal while also building the world and having Thorn coming to terms with his new status within it.
Definitely a great series and another great book.
