but, what about the money?
The older I get, the more I realise how much I want money and my creativity to align.
The advice for creatives who want to 'earn' is to pick a niche and then suck that well dry. If you don't want to do that? Then the advice is that creativity doesn't need to earn you money and you should do it for the fun of it.
The problem is I want to have my cake and eat it to. I shouldn't have to compromise on having one without the other.
Yes, I probably would enjoy myself somewhat if I was earning enough to make a living for my creativity, but if I'd picked a specific niche, I would eventually feel creatively bankrupt. Similarly, if I was creating for the fun of it, it's likely that life would take hold and unfortunately, if you're needing money, your priorities are different than trying to do the bit of creativity you're doing for fun.
Perhaps I'm being overly cynical about it. After all, I've had such a fear of failure, it's not like I've truly committed to trying to do it for money or love.
I have my art page and I'm back on Instagram so perhaps I've taken a step in the right direction.
I find myself falling deeper into my creativity now and despite wishing I could have done it earlier, there is a part of me that is beginning to think that this is the right time for me to be doing it. I suppose this could be doing it for love, but I confess, I'm so tired of my career that I want to be doing it for money too.
As I think on this, I'm wondering if perhaps there is a way to have both.
I don't know what that way is, but I suppose it starts with distribution and getting seen doesn't it and that requires putting in the work.
Step one; put in the work.
I'll get back to you on step two.
