Welcome to the Mattiverse

my social battery is empty

I've been fortunate to enjoy my own company, I've had/have 'friends', but never the 'stuck with you' type friendship that people seem to enjoy and to be honest, I'm glad about this.

I don't like being overly social, I don't like being made to feel like because I don't go out or because I don't want to interact with people, that I'm miserable. I'm not miserable, I'm comfortable.

Comfortable enough to be on my own and to have my own interests. I don't need anyone else to feel content, I don't need other people to make me feel like I'm special or deserving or any other platitude.

This gives me the added benefit of knowing that the few people in my life are the people I've let in and gives me ownership of my social life.

Away from the IRL of social niceties is the online world.

I don't have much social media, I have a LinkedIn page which I pretty much use to play the games for about 5 minutes or have a quick check if there's any interesting jobs to apply for.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky... I tried them and deactivated them, either through the excess of porn bots and trolls (Twitter and BlueSky) or the performative nature of the platform (Facebook, Instagram & TikTok).

I'm sure there's more social platforms I'm forgetting and there's probably one or two decent one's out there. I hear good things about Mastodon for example, but here's the thing... I'm not interested.

The only reason I'd want to be on social media now is to earn money and currently I don't have the patience to try and build that.

Could you argue that blogging is a social act? I suppose there is certain good reasoning about it, but I find a lot less pressure to perform when I'm blogging than when I'm on a social site and I get to choose who/what I interact with and to the extent that I do so.
